Come learn the stories behind the Mile High City. Learn how the city was founded and the roles played by James Denver, Robert Speer, Ben Stapleton and many others. Come hear about the booms and busts, and the inside on the 1976 Winter Olympics crush. Reservations are not required. Beyond the Headlines - The Pine Beetle Infestation
The Mountain Pine Beetle was first identified in 1996, and is now considered responsible for over 1.5 million acres of dead and dying lodgepole pines in Colorado. There are predictions that every large mature lodgepole pine forest in Colorado and southern Wyoming will be dead in 3-5 years. This session will explore the science of the situation as well as options to address it. Reservations are not required. Beyond the Headlines - Afghanistan
In October of 2001, the United States led a coalition invasion of Afghanistan seeking to oust the ruling Taliban and find Al Qaeda leaders, including Osama bin Laden. This program will look at the path Afghanistan has taken since then, including the establishment of a new government under the leadership of Hamid Karzai, and attempt to forecast what the future holds for this war-torn country as troop presence there continues to increase. Coming Soon! - Animal Globeology
In cooperation with The Wildlife Experience, Knott’s Kids will have program on animal habitats around the world in the fall of 2009. The permanent exhibit, Animal Globeology, opens at The Wildlife Experience in late May, 2009. Knott’s Kids is funded by the Jefferson County Library Foundation and Friends.

Special Friends Only Preview night, Thursday, October 22, from 6-8:30 p.m. Open to the public Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission Friday-Sunday.
