Knott's Kids . . . Discovering the Possibilities

Knott's Kids is a unique children's literacy program for kids ages 6 through 12. The program combines interactive exhibits along with library books, materials and hands-on activities to spark kids’ curiosity and imaginations and help them discover the joy of reading.

Knott's Kids will connect with high profile community events, museum exhibits and cultural and educational institutions on a year-round basis, bringing related programming to each library. Through Project Bookpack Knott's Kids rotates books in a colorful back pack to children in qualified after school care programs, homeless shelters and safe houses.

Fall/Winter 2008-2009 Programs and Events

A Dose of Gross: Animal Oddities
Mother Nature's creatures sure have some strange ways of behaving and protecting themselves from danger. You’ll find out that animals and insects can be downright yucky in A Dose of Gross, a free program coming to your library this fall. Melissa Cole, with The Wildlife Experience, explains how animals go to extremes to adjust to their environment and react to threats. Kids will perform hands-on activities to see how animals may seem gross as they adapt and protect themselves. This series of programs, for ages 6 and up, is linked to the Animal Grossology Exhibition at The Wildlife Experience in Parker, CO, Sept. 27, 2008 to April 26, 2009. Attendance at each 45-minute program is limited to 40 people. Free advance tickets are required and available at all libraries. Funding for Knott’s Kids programs is provided by the Library Foundation.

Dinosaurs: Walking in Their Footsteps Kids will learn lots of fun facts about dinosaurs from "Mr. Bones" and his life size dinosaur puppets. He is a paleopuppeteer who loves to talk about dinosaurs and answer questions. The big puppets are made of paper Mache and foam rubber over a wire frame. This Knott’s Kids program is for age 6 and up. Advance tickets are required and available at all 10 libraries. Funding for Knott’s Kids is provided by the Library Foundation. The program is presented in collaboration with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science’s exhibition Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries, Sept. 26-Jan. 4, 2009.
